Mike Carey

Mr. Carey regularly prepares and prosecutes utility patents with an emphasis on the technology areas of software, and electrical and mechanical engineering. Mr. Carey also develops technology and processes to increase the efficiency of patent preparation and prosecution. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Mr. Carey was a Major, Chief of Command Post, and Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force, and flew a C-130 in multiple combat deployments.Mike is currently on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Patent Practitioners, and has been recognized by the USPTO for his regular Pro bono contributions to the local community.Mike’s academic credentials include: Harvard Law School, JD., 2009 North Carolina State University, MS Physics 2006 BYU, BS Mathematics, 2001

Fred Zustak

Fred has over 25 years of experience as a patent attorney.  Most recently the Director of Intellectual Property for Sony Corporation of America, Fred has considerable experience in establishing in-house corporate IP departments. Fred focuses on the subject matter areas including chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, fuel cell, water purification, electrical, consumer electronics, digital signal processing, automotive chassis, and more.  He has written hundreds of patent applications, and is an inventor on over 36 issued patents and 94 pending applications.
As the past president of the National Association of Patent Practitioners, Fred has frequently shared his knowledge by giving many presentations and has taught US patent practice to overseas organizations. His expertise also includes patent analytics and non-parametric statistical analysis in the identification of potential licensees, assessing technology trends, landscape and SWOT analysis.
Fred’s academic credentials include:  B.S. Chemistry and B.S. Chemical Engineering from University of CA at Davis, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and a J.D. from Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley.

Nick Zustak

Nick is a patent engineer, technical writer and draftsman with over ten years of experience in preparing patents and patent drawings. He has focused on the areas of electrical and mechanical engineering. Nick is also working towards certification as a patent agent with the USPTO. Nick’s interests include computer and chemical engineering and software development, as well as infrared photography and electronic music.
Nick’s academic credentials include a B.S.  in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science from the Colorado School of Mines.

Jake Blair

Jake is a patent draftsman with extensive experience with the Adobe suite of technology including Illustrator and Photoshop. He specializes in character and object design.
Jake’s academic credentials include a B.A. in Digital design from U.C. Davis. He is interested in surfing, archery, and studying history.
